Do you offer rebates for private health care?
Yes, private health care rebates are available for remedial massage. Check with your private health care provider to see you if you are covered for remedial massage.
What should I wear to my massage appointment?
You can wear any clothing you like to a massage session, but comfortable, casual clothing works well. You will usually remove jewellery and watches for your massage, so arriving at your session wearing a minimal amount works best. Longer hair is best tied back or in a bun so it doesn’t catch and reduces the chance of any massage oil or lotion getting into it. We have disposable hair caps available for you to use in clinic to reduce the chance of this even further – we find this works well if you are not going straight home after your massage!
What should I expect during my massage appointment?
Initial appointment
At your initial appointment we will do a thorough health assessment, go through your medical history, and take time to discuss your health goals and what you hope to achieve from your massage. We then plan and agree upon a treatment for the session.
Subsequent appointments
During subsequent sessions we will check if you have any new health information, including changes in medication and new diagnoses, and discuss the result of, and how you felt after your last massage session. From here we plan and agree upon treatment for this session.
Positioning
Usually the massage is carried out on the massage table, which has plenty of padding and is very comfortable. The table is lowered (electrically) so that you can easily get on it and usually raised to a height that is comfortable for the practitioner to perform the massage. The massage table is not the only choice though, and you can choose to be massaged in a chair or from your wheelchair if that is more comfortable for you.
Clothing
Often a massage is often carried out with minimal clothing on the patient, (usually just underwear) but this is not essential, and you have the option of wearing as much clothing as you like to feel comfortable, even be fully clothed. You are always well covered with linen during your massage, with only the body part worked on being exposed.
After the massage
When the massage has concluded and you have dressed we will discuss the result of the massage and make any recommendations that might be helpful. This may include things you can be doing at home to enhance your massage treatment, referral to other healthcare workers or further massage sessions.
